Hi. My name is Jerry Crowder and I live in Little Rock, Arkansas. I am CRAZY about Bugs....Volkswagen Bugs, that is. At the time I built this website, I had five (5) Bugs: Chigger; Pink Panther; Booger; Herbie; & Snoopy. After  getting married in 2003, I reduced my fleet somewhat and now just have my New Beetle and Chigger.  I am still displaying the other cars because they were such an important part of my life for so long.  To see a picture and learn about each car, simply click on their names at the left of this page <------. The following, however, is a little about me and my past experiences with Volkswagens.

I am 69 years young......been there, done that, you know....but one thing I still enjoy doing is getting in a Bug and going for a ride. I love the feel, the smell, the sound, the memories, and just the over-all joy that I experience when I drive a Bug. I love the smiles, the waves, the V signs, the thumbs ups, and the looks on peoples faces when they see me in one of my beautiful Bugs. I love to talk about Volkswagens, VW toys, VW collectibles, VW history, Ferdinand Porshe, Adolph Hitler's Car of the Masses, or if you're just lonely and need someone to talk to....write me at jerrycrowder@comcast.net.

My first experience with a Volkswagen came when I graduated college in 1965. I went to work for Arkansas Accounting Company for $100.00 per week, company car and car allowance. The car was a 1964 Volkswagen and the gas allowance was $2.50 per week (10 gallon tank at $.25 per gallon, right?). I soon fell in love with the car, but not the job.

When I left this job in 1967 for greener pastures, they wouldn't let me keep the car (imagine that), so I bought a 1961 VW. This was a really great little car, not very pretty, but a great car. The exterior had not been taken care of and the blue paint was so oxidized that it actually looked purple. After spending a whole day cleaning it up and waxing it...I realized that it hardly looked any better. So....why mess with it,(right?) just drive it, which I did.

On the Monday after I bought it...I went to work and they told me I needed to go to Leland, Mississippi on business and to take my personal car and that they would reimburse me $.15 per mile. I thought to myself....Where in the world is Leland, MS? How far is it? Will the little '61 make it? Well, I didn't have a choice, I had to go....I took off. The little car drove great and made the 328 mile round trip without a hitch and used $2.48 worth of gas...for which the company reimbursed me $49.20.....man oh man, that was two week's worth of groceries.

In 1973, I bought a brand new baby blue Deluxe VW Sedan with factory air. I paid $2,795.00 ($400 extra for factory air)for this car and it was also a great little car. I kept this car for about 4 years. I had finally outgrown VW's anyway, right?

Now that you know more about me than you ever wanted, please go back to the top of this page and look at my Bugs and my toy collection,

I'll be buggin you later,

Jerry
